How we work
Taxonomy works at the level of the claim. Each claim gets an owner field, a warrant, a status and its dependencies.
The four labels
- Owner field. Which discipline is responsible for it. A statistical claim is answerable to statistics, not to whoever repeats it.
- Warrant. The type of evidence behind it: proof, measurement, observation, expert consensus, model output and so on. [[CONFIRM final evidence-type list from the standard]]
- Status. Where it stands right now: settled, contested, provisional, retracted. [[CONFIRM status vocabulary]]
- Dependencies. What else has to be true for it to hold.
With that in front of you, you can see what's solid and what's soft. You can state each claim as strongly as its evidence allows, and no stronger.
What we don't claim
We don't claim to decide what's true. We show what kind of support a claim has, and we make it hard to overstate it. The judgement stays with you.
